SPRING AND SUMMER 2013 EFFORTS

1. Alternative House: The Alternative House is a refuge for abused, homeless, and at-risk teens. They currently have a GARGANTUAN television in their communal living room that takes precious space that can be used for group sessions. We hope to purchase the best deal for a flat screen TV on Craigslist and get a few volunteers to mount it. Based on our most recent search, the best Craiglist deals for a nice, 40”+ flat screen run between $200 and $450. We will go for the best bargain once we have raised at least $200. We currently have $195. (This number will be updated whenever we receive donations towards this cause. Please donate today!)

2. Meals on Wheels: The Fairfax Meals on Wheels program provides a hot lunch and a cold meal to residents age 60 and over and adults with disabilities who cannot shop for or prepare their own meals or have no one available to prepare meals due to a chronic condition, or functional, physical or mental impairment. Meals are prepared in local hospitals, Fairfax County Public Schools, senior centers, and several ethnic food establishments under contract with Fairfax County. Volunteers are needed to deliver lunch between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. (You may choose residents who are near your workplace, school, or home.) Let’s do this in teams of 2-3! Mileage can be reimbursed. 3. Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS): LLS provides research, education, advocacy, and patient services for leukemia and lymphoma. We would like to plan a barbecue fundraiser this summer (with food options for special diets!!) in a local park. We will invite everyone we know and charge $5-10 per guest. All proceeds will go to LLS.
